An Introduction to the Human Behind the Words You’re Reading…
Quite frankly, out of all of the pages and posts on this site, this is the hardest one for me to write in a small space. Sometimes, my journey through life ~ up to my current age of 35 ~ feels so big, that I don’t quite know where to begin.
So let me start with just a few things I’d like you to know.
I want you to know that I started life in government-funded housing on a council estate in England. That’s important, because I hope the more I share of my story, the more you’ll see that it’s possible to create a beautiful life for yourself, no matter where you begin…
Next, I’d like you to know that first moving from my small-ish home city to London and then to New York alone at 21, was the period that a deep desire to explore and live life in different places, awakened. Once it did, I had an intuitive feeling that I might never live in England again. And that’s now been true for 15 years to date.
I want you to know that the thread tying my journey together has simply been this: following my heart, as best as I could. It led me to live in New York, then Brazil, Paris, Copenhagen and Berlin throughout my twenties.
Six countries in six years, all even with limited financial resources.
I also want you to know that there was a period in my life where instead of following my intuition, I listened to logic and the voices of societal expectation. A season of several years where, after moving from one country to the next, I settled down in Berlin, got a 9-5 job, even lived with a partner and was building a more “traditional” life.
And I suffered. Knowing it just didn’t “feel right” but not necessarily knowing what to do about it or where to go from there.
I want you to know at exactly the right moment, I found spirituality, or it found me, which gave language to things I’d always somehow felt and acted upon. That our inner world, the things we feel pulled towards, are guidance from our soul. And to hear it, we must consciously quieten external noise ~ the expectations, the ’shoulds’ and the timelines.
This led to a decision to start my own business, with the intention of reclaiming my freedom. To create a life where I could once again, live in different places each year, decide for myself what my days look like, spend more time with friends and family without limiting holiday allowance and feel peace knowing this is a path I had chosen for myself. A life I’m currently living.
In my thirties so far, I’ve spent months at a time in Bali, Vietnam, Mexico, Provence, Paris, Greece, Guatemala and have travelled to many other places, all while keeping Berlin as a base.
I want you to know this space is my digital home to share more of this journey.
Sometimes I’ll dip back into the past, sharing old stories, lessons learned and how I was able to travel for years on a limited budget in my twenties. Sometimes I’ll share local tips and experiences from the places I stay longer-term. And sometimes, I’ll simply share thoughts around freedom and personal reflections as I move through this heart led life that doesn’t fit societal norms.
Anyone can open ChatGPT, ask any question on any subject or destination and follow its advice. So when I see travelling souls, like myself, still choosing to share their experiences and personal recommendations, the first thing I want to know is why…
Why are they sitting down, in this moment in time, to tell their story? Why should anyone read it, listen, follow their advice? Where have they lived and how deeply do they get to know such places? Do they meet local people, do they care about getting to know the culture?
Are they the type of person to pack up a suitcase and move across the world alone, not once but multiple times? Are they willing to follow something unknown, even when it doesn’t make logical sense? I want to know who they are.
I hope that I answered some of those here for you today. And I’m so happy you found your way to my digital home. You’re always welcome to stay as long as you like 💛
~ Paris
