Working from Cafés ~ How It Helps You Feel Free

Maybe it’s the movement of people. The clinking of cups. The taps of walking feet across tiled floors. A steady hum of background life, acting like a “feel good” work playlist that helps you get into the rhythm.

Working from cafés has become one of my favourite things. It offers a kind of inspiration that’s honestly rather hard to put into words. You’re not surrounded by people doing the same thing as you, like you would be in an office, but rather, you are surrounded by life.

By people just… being. Talking over lunch, daydreaming out the window, reading in corners. Enjoying, in whatever fashion, this little part of their day.

It feels so different from working in a standard traditional setting. More human. More alive. And far more free!

The Energy of a Place Matters

I’ve come to realise how much the energy of a space influences how I feel, and what I create. Some days, I want stillness and solitude. But other days… I want to sit at a corner table in a local café, sip slowly on something warm, laptop out, letting the world move around me. I don’t need it to be perfect. I just need it to feel good.

As I write this, I’m sat in the quiet, open-air courtyard of Kiyo Café in Oaxaca City (one of my favourites here!), sipping a lavender latte and listening to the gentle sounds of the water fountain to my right. The sun is moving across the tiled floor in patches.

A woman nearby is journaling. A couple are conversing in Spanish. Nobody’s rushing. It’s calm, and beautiful ~ and this is the magic of remote work from cafés ~ the ability to choose your setting and let your surroundings become part of your creative process.

Not Everyone Loves Working Like This — And That’s Beautiful Too

But I also understand that not everyone feels the way I do about working in such a setting.

Some people say they thrive in absolute silence. Or need privacy. Or love the community feel of being surrounded by a team. And that’s beautiful too. I definitely don’t think there’s one perfect way to work, but I do believe this:

The more people who are able to create from places that feel good to them —
the more beautiful things we’ll all get to experience as a result.

And honestly, I think the world could use more of that. More beauty, more presence, more work infused with feeling and more freedom to choose how and where they work best!

Why This Matters for the Freedom Lifestyle

Having the choice to work from anywhere, whether it be a café, a co-working space, a cabin in the mountains, or even just from home has nothing to do with aesthetics or lifestyle trends (or at least it shouldn’t).

It’s simply about making decisions freely. About designing your day with intention. It’s the pleasure of creating from a place that reflects who you are, how you feel on any given day, and what you value.

For anyone embracing the digital nomad lifestyle or simply looking for more alignment in their workday, this kind of flexibility is a superpower. One that allows work, to work for you…

If you’re curious, I’ve also written about how I make money online while travelling the world ~ it might offer a little extra inspiration if you’re imagining what your own next steps could look like.

Tell Me: Do You Love Working from Cafés Too?

I’d love to hear how you feel about working remotely from cafés or anywhere outside the traditional office. Do you also find it more inspiring? Or allow yourself to imagine… if you could work from anywhere in the world today, where would you go first?
